Surviving Without Food Supplies: How to Hunt for Survival

After you run out of food, you may experience the first signs of hunger. Many people have hallucinations, convulsions, muscle pain and cramps. Their bodies bloat with fluid under the skin. They can have diarrhea and their stomachs cannot digest any food because of a decline in stomach acid.

It is also very possible to survive such a scenario, but only if you keep a cool head and remember that there are always ways of surviving. At least two weeks before your food supplies end, you must be able to hunt and fish. It is necessary to find fruit, vegetables, grains and other plant-based food even if you hunt for animals or eat fish.

Search for Edible Plants, Insects, and Reptiles

When people are hungry, they’ll eat almost everything they’d never dream of eating under normal circumstances.

Plants, insects, and snakes will keep you alive and healthy. But try some new food if you’re not completely confident it’s edible.

Hunt and Fish for Your Own Food

There’s plenty of wild game like wild deer, elk, antelope, goats, bears, wild hogs and wild turkey in the United States. If you are a hunter, you may have the firearms for hunting, including a good accurate, scaled rifle. A shotgun is going to be good for poultry, waterfowl and small game. You can go fishing in your area such as fishing lakes, rivers, streams, and rural farm ponds that may have edible fish.

If you’re new to hunting and fishing, take part in hunting and fishing seminars, workshops, and classes. Watch videos and read books about hunting and fishing. When you gain knowledge of hunting and fishing, you can extend your food resources throughout a long period of unrest or instability or no fresh food supplies are available in grocery stores.

Assign People to Hunt, Fish, and Forage

If you’re traveling in a group, assign people to be hunters, foragers, and fishers within the first week of no food. They may have to go distances to new areas of hunting, fishing, and foraging where other survivors that may be hostile to them may be encountered.

Compare the needs of those left behind with those who will go out and forage. Be mindful that they may deteriorate from malnutrition and cannot carry food if they are unsuccessful under the ration limits.

When you run out of food, it is easy to panic, but that will only waste valuable time and energy and you can end making costly mistakes. Maintain a level head and use your prepper skills and knowledge. You know more ways to survive than none, and you will find survival much simpler than you might expect.
