Don’t Throw Out These 4 Junk Items: How They Can Help Boost Your Chances of Survival

In reality survival TV shows, the contestants use everything they find for different needs. There’s a term for redoing objects differently than their original intention—it’s “repurposing”. In the post-disaster scenario, these four junk items are versatile enough to let you repurpose them for your survival.

Garbage Bags

Find and shape a garbage bag into a funnel. The water will evaporate as the light reflects on the plastic and heats it. A garbage bag is the easiest way to collect condensation is to position green foliage or moisten the soil with polluted water. If you have enough plastic, you can make a solar still that provides a safe water supply for a limited time.

Analog/Non-Digital Watch

As the seasons change, the sun changes directions. From fall to winter, the summer sets further south, and from winter to summer, it then moves north. To avoid confusion, you can use your old analog watch as a compass.

Put the watch on the ground and point the hour hand to the sun’s rays. This approach is not 100 % reliable, but it can give you a general sense of direction.

Tree Stand

A custom tree stand can serve as a lookout and cover in a variety of circumstances. A tree stand is useful in areas vulnerable to flash floods. It could also rescue you from a herd of starving wolves or even a charging animal. Take a tree stand education course to discover the intricacy of secure climbing equipment.

Prescription Glasses

Any prescription glasses may theoretically save you from freezing to death. Keep the glasses about 12 to 14 inches away from the fuel and continue to manipulate the angle until the sun’s rays burn. Slowly blow on it as it continues to smolder before the blaze begins, then throw more tinder and wood on it.

One person’s trash is another man’s treasure. However, in survival scenarios, the word “garbage” takes on a new meaning if it means survival or death.
